Intended by Bobby Jones and Dr. Alister MacKenzie to reflect the spirit and strategic options of the Old Course at St. Andrews, Augusta succeeds brilliantly, despite recent changes that narrow the playing corridors. Nearly every hole provides a safe route to the green and also a riskier one, which inevitably leads to pulse-quickening drama on Sunday’s back nine. Combine the shot values with its staggering springtime beauty and Augusta is without equal.

Sân Augusta National

Host to the PGA Tour since 1946, Pebble Beach is also a five-time U.S. Open venue, where winners include Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson and Tiger Woods. Each man is a superb tactician with the ability to hit and hold Pebble’s small greens amid Pacific Ocean breezes that destroy lesser ballstrikers. No tournament venue draws more oohs and aahs from fans and players, thanks to its unforgettable cliff-top holes down the stretch.

Sân Pebble Beach

Venue for the Players Championship since 1982, Pete Dye’s cunning, variety-filled and occasionally terror-inducing track has few peers for risks and rewards. Sure it’s artificial, but no single Tour course pumps up the anticipation and fear factor better than Sawgrass, where the reachable par-5 16th, island-green 17th and brutal par-4 18th make wild leaderboard changes commonplace.

Sân TPC Sawgrass

The PGA Tour has been a staple at this Pete Dye/Jack Nicklaus creation since 1969. Pros who relish Old World challenges, curving shots under and around oak limbs thrive on this placement course. The final three holes conclude in spectacular fashion along Calibogue Sound, notably at the par-4 18th which is backdropped by the iconic red-and-white lighthouse.

Sân Harbour Town

Conceived by Jack Nicklaus in 1966 to be his hometown equivalent of Bobby Jones’ Augusta National, this 1974 collaboration with architect Desmond Muirhead was an instant smash, for its strategic design, flawless conditioning and seamlessly integrated spectator areas. It gets the nod -- just barely -- over Riviera for fifth place due to its superior risk/reward drama on the back nine.

Formerly a Trump-branded course, this 7,569-yard Tom Kite design dishes out length, tropical breezes and a few handsome seaside vistas. It comes up empty, however, on individually memorable holes. The event was played opposite Doral last year. This year it butts heads with the WGC-Dell Match Play. We’d rather play computer golf than play here.

Coco Beach Golf & Country Club, Rio Grande, Puerto Rico -- Puerto Rico Open (chỉ có 1 vài hồ đẹp ở bờ biển, còn lại người chơi sẽ chọn đánh qua máy tính còn hơn)

Just the sheer number of corporate references in the name of the course should send this layout packing. However, it cements its status in the bottom five with rock-and oak-strewn rough framing the slender fairways, rendering it nearly unplayable in the wind, as well as for its small, heavily contoured greens and deep, awkwardly sited bunkers.

JW Marriott TPC San Antonio (AT&T Oaks), San Antonio, Tex. -- Valero Texas Open (sân quá nhiều cây cỏ rậm cao, nhiều vách đá, sân thường khoong thể đánh nổi mỗi khi có gió to)

The much shorter sibling (by nearly 700 yards) to its tournament co-host, the South, this 1957 Billy Bell Jr. design boasts a handful of scenic holes on the front nine, but bland bunkers, equally vapid greens and an utterly forgettable back nine sink the North to “must-be-redesigned” status.

Torrey Pines (North), La Jolla, Calif. -- Farmers Insurance Open (mặt green phẳng, bunker bland, sân Torey thực sự cần thiết kế lại)

Course connoisseurs hoping to find vestiges of original designer Seth Raynor’s handiwork will be sorely disappointed. There’s little to see, save a passable Redan (the par-3 17th) that features the Pacific Ocean to the left. What you will find is one palm-lined hole after the next, with zero memorability. If you count the W-shaped palms behind the 16th tee as an interesting course feature, you need another umbrella drink.

Waialae Country Club, Honolulu, Hawaii -- Sony Open in Hawaii (điều mà bạn nhớ về sân golf này là những cây dừa thôi, cơ bản là không đọng lại gì)

OK, we’ll admit there are worse courses on Tour than Firestone South, but few are more boring. Many parallel holes, many elevated greens fronted by bunkers and many holes that seem to look and play exactly alike make us yearn to see big events contested on its sibling, the North, which tosses out an abundance of exciting, memorable, lake-guarded holes.
